Tapehead cleaner set

Tape machines need cleaning where the tape actually runs. Every pass leaves a little oxide behind, and it builds up on the heads, capstan and pinch roller, exactly the parts that read and move the tape. Left there, it dulls the top end, brings dropouts and uneven playback, and works its way onto the next tape you play.

The tapehead cleaner set is the proper, hands-on way to deal with it. The cleaning fluid is formulated to dissolve the oxide, grease and adhesive residue that collect on the tape path, while the felt pins and cotton swabs let you reach each part and clean it precisely. Cleaning with the heads and rollers moving means you clean them evenly, all the way round, rather than just the spot they happen to rest on. A dry pass afterwards lifts away the loosened grease and any leftover fluid.

It's made for open and reel-to-reel decks and any machine where you can reach the heads by hand, the tape equivalent of looking after your stylus. Keep the path clean and a deck records and plays the way it should, and it stops a dirty machine from quietly wearing on tapes you can't replace. For sealed cassette decks, the AM cassette cleaner does the same job the easy way, played like an ordinary tape.
